Calibrated fans are used to measure the leakage from Duct systems. When a duct fan is combined with a whole house fan, leakage to the outside can be measured as opposed to a simple total leakage test. Diagnostics on leaky duct systems can include infrared cameras, smoke sticks or fog machines to identify hidden points of duct leakage that would not otherwise be visible. Through this type of diagnostic testing, air leakage from a duct systems can be minimized resulting in an improved thermal envelope of the building, and cost savings for heating and cooling to the owners.
